Christmas in Ethiopia

Christmas celebrations are exciting and colorful events in many parts of the world, and here in Ethiopia, it is no different.

Each year, OneChild Hope Centers in Ethiopia eagerly anticipate the opportunity to celebrate the birth of Christ through songs, poetry, and dramas performed by the children to the delight of the Child Champions and caregivers in the audience. Many parents look forward to sharing the special meal that is provided, and the children cannot wait until it is time to open presents.

Because of Covid-19 safety protocols, Christmas 2020 included masks as a precaution, but the limitations around the global pandemic did not diminish the joy our sponsors, donors, and supporters provided. With generous contributions to the Christmas Gift Fund, Child Champions were able to purchase and beautifully wrap individual gifts according to each child’s specific needs. In one Hope Center, children were even given new OneChild logo t-shirts to wear to school.

Family members and church volunteers helped prepare fun items such as decorations, bubbles, masks, and Santa Claus caps for the Christmas parties and distributed delicious snacks of cookies, candy, chocolate, and honey during the festivities.

The children were so excited and grateful for the wonderful food, drinks, entertainment, and special gifts, but most importantly, they could feel God’s love surrounding them as they celebrated the true meaning of Christmas.

We are accountable to the children we serve AND to our donors.

Our accountability to our donors is one of our highest priorities. Our goal is to use the funds entrusted to us as wise stewards. To do this requires continued monitoring of our fund distribution.
