The Five Signs of the Generational Church

In this intercultural leadership session, you will learn about the five characteristics, or signs, a church needs to take it into the next century. These five signs emerged from dialogue and participation from church leaders around the world, from every culture and every continent where OneChild works.

Learning Objectives

You will learn that a generational church builds hope and helps children to believe a better future is possible.
You will understand why kids are vital to a church being able to last for generations.

Key Takeaways

  • Committed leadership: Church leaders must see youths, the next generation, as important participants in the kingdom in order for a church to carry into the future
  • Child Champions: The church must engage the people who actually work with the kids and who build trusting relationships with them. They are the Child Champions.
  • Child participation: There must be intentional listening to and inclusion of youths, and they must know that their ideas and feedback matter to the church.
  • Family engagement: Leaders, together with Child Champions, must reach out and engage the families or extended families of the youths in the church and help equip them to raise their kids toward whole health.
  • Child development program: A generational church needs a plan crafted by not only leaders but also by Child Champions who know firsthand what a child needs to flourish.
