Nicaragua
2019
Come on a life-changing adventure with us!
Nicaragua is a beautiful country with friendly people just waiting to meet you! This Middle American country, which borders Honduras and Costa Rica, is known for its lakes, volcanoes and beaches.
Our Child Champions at churches in Nicaragua minister to children and provide crucial help, including healthcare, nutritious food, and the chance to hear about how much God loves them.
Education is a challenge in Nicaragua. Children attend primary school each year from February through November. It takes children around 11 years to complete the required 6 years of primary school. Despite the minimal schooling requirement, many still do not finish their education. Because of high poverty and unemployment rates, children often have to drop out of school to help make ends meet. But children in our program go to school and receive tutoring so that they can develop and reach goals for their future.
All this care, of course, would not be possible without sponsors who support each child in our program.
There are 14 Hope Centers in Nicaragua where Child Champions help more than 1,500 impoverished children. In June 2019 you will have the opportunity to experience Nicaragua and see the crucial work of OneChild firsthand!
On this trip you will join other families that desire to share their love with the children of Nicaragua.

Is there an age limit?
The minimum age to participate is 12. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian; all applications are subject to approval. Do I need any immunizations?
OneChild does not require any immunizations; however, it is always wise to have your tetanus shot up-to-date. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (www.cdc.gov), “You should become familiar with what steps to take and who to contact in case of a medical emergency while you are traveling.” We recommend that, 6 to 8 weeks before your departure, you consult with your physician, local health department or the CDC website www.cdc.gov/travel/ for information required and recommended immunizations for the country where you will be traveling. Some vaccinations require a series of doses spaced weeks apart.
Why do I need a background check?
To ensure the safety of our children and determine eligibility to travel with OneChild, all travelers must complete a criminal background check. To process background checks, OneChild uses a third party company. After completing trip registration, you will need to submit your background check request at https://onechildmatters.quickleasepro.com/. You will be asked to pay $45 by credit card to submit your request. This $45 expense is nonrefundable. The results of your background check are confidential and all personal information is kept in a secure location.
