Flash Flooding in Digos City, Philippines, 2020

The homes of 145 children from OneChild Hope Centers PH-104 and PH-105 were flooded. At one point the water was neck-deep as it entered the children’s homes. We are praising God that there have been no reports of serious injuries.

Sadly, families were unable to salvage belongings during the evacuation, and many of their possessions and food supplies have been ruined.

Families are now returning to begin the difficult cleanup. After floods, disease is always an immediate concern due to the filthy water surrounding homes and an increase in mosquitoes that spread illnesses like dengue fever. These families are already facing challenges due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 quarantine, and some were also affected by a monsoon wave last August.

The government is distributing rice on a first-come-first-served basis, but supplies are short due to needs created by the quarantine. Child Champions are working to help the affected children and their families.

Please join us in lifting up these prayer requests shared by their Child Champions and in thanking God for protecting the kids and their families living in poverty. Please pray:

• That the families will be protected from illness from the dirty water and mosquitos surrounding their homes;
• That there will be no more flooding and that families can return to their livelihoods;
• That their fear of calamity would fade, and their faith and trust in God – who knows the future and is the only One who can help with every need – will grow.
